I have all the parts bell housing adapter plate ect they were on the truck when i got it from my friend he had a blown 302 in it. i just need to know (The 4 or 5 speed transmission will need slight modifications to the input shaft pilot tip, clutch splines & stock release bearing retainer. ) from aa
I need to know what these mods are:icon_thumby:

Modifications: Using a hacksaw blade in each groove, make sure the new clutch disk slides freely on the original transmission input shaft. The tip of the original input shaft will need to be shortened so that it is flush with the face of the bellhousing. The new pilot bearing that is supplied with Kit No. 712541 must be installed into the new V-8 engine crank. Make sure the seal in the new pilot bearing is facing outward towards the clutch. This will prevent the grease from entering the clutch area.

never mind i found it thanks any way

Do yourself a favor and toss all those parts in the scrap bin. Instead of a blown 302, you're going to end up with a blown transmission, first time you apply too much power with the slightest bit of traction. Then you'll end up doing what you should do now.........find and install a V8 transmission.

I agree. The factory trannies behind the weak motors weren't exactly the stoutest things ever built and just because you "can" get a conversion kit to hang it on the back of a V8, doesn't mean that you "should". Go find a tranny from a Fullsize. even though they are headache to install (ESP. without a bodylift [ask me how I know that...]) your truck will thank you, traffic around you will thank you AND not be laughing at you 'cause you just blew the tranny out of your truck and your WALLET will thank you, at least in the long run.

Even the early stock V-8 trans were only rated at 265 lb-ft torque. Lots of places are good at rebuilding them for a reason, they see them all the time.
