This is a project I was thinking about for the Bronco II. Any thoughts on what problems I would in counter? I was thinking that just like the 4.0 Liter swap, all I would need to do is replace the wirning harness with one from a 2.3 Liter and of course set up an exhaust system.

A 2.3 bellhousing bolt pattern is different from a 2.9. The 2.9 and 4.0 have the same bellhousing bolt patterns.

I figured I could remove the bellhousing from the 2.3 liter transmission and put it on mine. I rebuilt my transmission two years ago with a shift kit and better internals.

Good success on your project..

I did some research for myself some time ago and found that there is technically no 4cyl bell housing for an fm146 v-6 trans. I DO have a 4 cyl bell for a TK5 and Possibly an FM145.. which should technically fit an fm146 i guess..but Allan D says it shouldn't be attempted..you might check into that..If you are considering it..Some people think myself included that a TK5 may be a better choice for a trans anyway over an fm-anything..you might want to look into that some...
