First post, but long time Ranger driver, even took my driving test in this very truck 10+ years ago!

Let me first say that a coolant leak in the combustion chamber has been fairly definitively ruled out.

Issue first noticed when driving on a clear day, and the truck suddenly had very little power and could not maintain highway speed in OD. This was followed immediately (as soon as I checked my mirror) by medium gray to black at times smoke at the tailpipe. This smoke is now present from cold start to as near as it can get to operating temp at this time. Most likely running very rich or not getting full combustion for some reason.

When keying the truck on the CEL does not illuminate. When trying to use the standard jumper wire code reading the CEL does not illuminate. However, when using the test light method the CEL did manage one dim flash, but the test light did not flash.

Have already tried to rule out smaller electrical gremlins by unplugging the MAP, TPS, and O2 sensor (when warm). Have gone over as many electrical connectors as practical and found no faults except for some corrosion on the negative batter cable near the terminal. Several months before this failure the EGR, spark plugs, and injectors were replaced.

Don't want to just throw parts at it, but am leaning towards the spark controller (all 8 coils are creating spark, spark on drivers side seems weaker) or the ECU.

Thanks for reading through, any help would be appreciated.

I would check your fuel pressure regulater. pull the vacuum line off and see if fuel is coming out of the vacuum port. I had a bronco that kept blowing them and it would blow black smoke and run like crap.

Checked the FPR, no fuel coming out of the vacuum fitting. Anyone else?
