So, Thank YOU all to the great advice from members and Moderators on this great site. Much respect..

Im in the middle of a full clutch and flywheel replacement.

Brand new, Flywheel, and full clutch kit (disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing and and slave release bearing, throw out? bearing).

I did all this 7 years ago and replaced the clutch slave at that time. She is working fine and upon inspection has NO leaks nor has any defects.

now the ring gear on flywheel is shot so doing all this again. arghh...

The Slave Has about 3000miles on it. or just normal use over 7 years. no towing.

truck is on its third engine with 205000 miles, I installed the last engine myself (thanks to the kind help from this site).

So... SHOULD I BE ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH JUST REPLACING THE SLAVE THROW OUT BEARING AND NOT THE FULL SLAVE CYLINDER?

She will be a daily driver for about 3 months then, I will be putting her out to pasture at our farm as a casual use non registered farm / yard truck so wont be crossing over the rockie mountaings again with her. makes me sad....

Also, Im going to try removing the pilot bearing area by heating it up gentely then packing the crevice with grease and inserting a tight bar into crevice then hammering on the bar to in theory act as a hydraulic push.. to push the pilot bearing out... This has not been changed in ? 15 years and it looks fine but I have a replacement so Hey why not add more frustration to this job... LOL. WHY MAKE IT EASY?

Thanks, Yall. looking forward to hearing any advice.

Clutch slave

Slave cylinder should be fine... just change the bearing 'cause you are already in there. As for pilot bearing, get a loaner slide puller from local auto part store if you can. The "hydraulic" method doesn't always work too well!

I have over 235k on my '98 and to my knowledge it's the original clutch, slave, throw out, etc. Ima say you should be fine.

what does the fluid look like in the master, like mud replace the slave, clean maybe ok, want to do the job againt dont replace, your choice
