Looking for a short bed and tailgate. I have an 88 ext cab 4x4 with a flat bed on it. Unfortunately with 33” tires, the flat bed is extremely limiting to suspension travel. Idk if other gen II ranger beds fit on the 88 but I would assume they would. I’m in AZ so anything close is ideal.

83-92 short bed will bolt on and look right. 93-11 short bed or flareside will bolt on, but styling won't match. Don't know that either would allow for more suspension up travel than your current flat bed.

If you were on this side of the country I could help you out, I've got two in the yard that I've got little use for. Unfortunately it would be cost prohibitive to get transported/shipped from here to AZ. You should have plenty of good sheetmetal in AZ to find something local.

Check out Car-Part.com for auto salvage yard inventories in your area. It isn't an all inclusive listing, not all yards list on there, but it should show a prety good sample of what is available in your area.

Perfect, 83-92 thanks for confirming that! Idk if it’s just the way the flat bed was installed but it’s pretty much touching the tires so having wheel wells will definitely help. I’ll check out car-part and see what I can find, I appreciate the help! If it doesn’t work out, who knows maybe I’ll make a road trip out to GA!

I wanna see what this flatbed looks like now. Guessing it's level with factory bed floor height? That would be severely limiting.

That might be the issue, maybe I’ll just raise it. I also would be open to upgrading to a new aftermarket flatbed if anyone knows a good company that makes em. I’ve looked a little and I’ve only really found ones for like F250’s and what not.

If you don't find it in INVENTORIED junk yards (using the likes of car-part) you can easily find one in the non-inventoried places... there are a ton of U-pick-it 'yards in Colorado (and last I checked that was a full days drive closer to AZ than GA).. I can't believe you wouldn't find one in a local AZ junkyard.

There are even "semi-inventoried" meaning they post pictures and online list of vehicles (but not individual parts) like LKQ. LKQ specifically does not list anything in AZ, but if you are on the west end of AZ then one of their Cali locations would be even shorter drive (and I found a '91 in my very first search): https://www.lkqpickyourpart.com/inventory/thousand-palms-1289/1991-ford-ranger/

Google around for "auto salvage" "scrapyard" "junkyard" "vehicle recyclers" etc etc - get creative with search terms because the politically correct BS out there has forced them to change names / listings a dozen times.

Oh wow, that bed and tailgate actually look to be in pretty damn good condition too! Thanks man that actually helps a lot, I feel like that’s my main weakness is trying to figure out what to actually type in for the search. I knew there had to be stuff out there!

try search terms that actually don't make sense... they PC renaming of stuff is stupid off the hook it seems...
metal recyclers
"where to take pop cans for money" ( gets ya the same place - metal recyclers)... etc
get creative with the alternate naming

I have no idea where you are in AZ, but there is a pretty huge 'yard I found using google maps near Tucson and that big ass airplane graveyard (Davis-Monthan)... don't remember the name of it or any details, but the old 40's and 50's crowd was looking for classic junkyards and that is when I ran across that one. Stuff in AZ just does not rust, and I would put a huge hesitation on driving cross country for one in the rust belt not expecting it to be half rusted through (this stuff is 30+ years old now).

Get into smaller rural areas and its not uncommon for a towing company to also be a slavage yard. Call and ask around, especially at auto part stores, you might be surprised at what you find close by.
