88 Ranger

Ok, Can someone please help me out here?..I need a transmission for my 88 Ranger 2.9 automatic. I know that the A4LD was not a good tranny. What options for another automatic do I have? Thank You for your time.

4.0 A4LD
c4 or c5(cant remeber) out of 85-86 2.8 ranger
or a
