I inherited my grandfather 1988 Ranger. (only 56K miles) It is a very basic truck with a 5 speed manual 2.0L. It is equipped with a carburetor and manual fuel pump. The truck had sat for a couple of year and I ended up replacing the gas tank, sending unit and fuel pump. It ran great for a day and then it started losing power and stalling out like it isn't getting gas. If I let it sit for a day it will fire right up and idle no problem but as soon as I drive it 100 yards or so it loses power and dies.

It seems like a loss of fuel pressure maybe? Any thoughts of what I can check to determine the problem?

Check your fuel pressure and delivery. I believe norms are 3-7 psi and one pint in 10 seconds. Change the fuel filter.

crap in the tank likely......collapsing sock or something.

i hated the 2.0....of that period.....but these new ecowhizzer 2.0 engines are awesome.

that truck deserves the upgrade.

I don’t think there would be any junk in the tank because the tank is new.

look on the frame rail....some have a secondary filter there near the tank in a black plastic assembly with a cup assembly., though the mechanical pump trucks should only have a sock....

definitely get a fuel pressure gauge and see what its doing....floats are ok?

When you refer to a sock, do you mean the filter on the sending unit in the tank because I replaced all of that. I am going to check the fuel pressure to start with.

May have a pinhole or collapseing fuel line
