HAve you gotten the codes??
does this only do it on a the 1st start of the morning like after its sat for more than 3hrs?? then fine after that 1st or cold start???(like jumping back in & restarting, under a hour or so)

Or does it do this no matter whether its warm or cold???

does it cough black clouds out the exhuast just after starting, but not smoothly??

when was last time you did a tune up ( cap, rotor, plugs, and wires)??

does ot no matter what even when its warm some times it doesnt do it it doesnt smoke at all just cant see to fig it out

Might be a couple of different things.

check the coolant sensor, (the one for the engine computer- not the dash)

also clean the AIC

once it is running, check for vacuum leaks

i found it where no one would think

i found it in the fuel pressure the book said it needed 40 psi at idle it only had 30 for some reason i undid the vac line on the pressure reg. and i got 40 psi at idle i turn it off let is set and turned it back on and it was perfect the funny thing is it even runs better and is faster and runs cooler to top it all off to pressure reg. was a new 80 one from discount and i find it really hard that two of my rangers have high psi vac systems and to top all that everything else works just fine
