do any of you guys not if your tranny holds fluid between that and the transfer case because it got a leek. just wondering if it needs a better seal or if its in the tranny

i dont think the two are supposed to have contact with eachother, otherwise ford would have made 1 fill hole and 1 drain hole for both. you probably have a bad seal or a loose bolt.

Both of mine (FM146 and M5OD), the trans & t-case have their own seals (ext housing shouldn't have oil in it).

I recommend sealing between the T-case and trans extension
housing, because if (actually "when") the seal at the back of
the trans goes bad ford "thoughtfully" (I put that in quotes
because I think "thought" isn't anything close to what they
were doing) provided a little drain notch in the mating surface
to give that half pint of trapped oil an escape route.

IF you SEAL that mating surface you could theoretically forget
to even install the seal and you'd only lose about half a pint
of fluid after which that chamber would effectively be full
(and any more oil would drain back into the trans.)

Silicone is your friend.

Well, no fluid came spilling out when I removed the t-case off mine...
