I need to rebuild the transfer case in a 88 4X4 (manual) Can or should I pull the transfer case off with out pulling the transmission?

Problem. The trans. works but I have no high 4x4 and low seem like the chain is broken. either way no front wheel turn.

Yeah, just pull the case off. Taking the trans out is a lot less fun. Most guys pull the case, then the trans if they want to get the trans off anyway (I am not that smart).

sure the linkage is hooked up?

if its not something like that its probably faaaaawked up.

wont know till you get it out nnless the case is visibly busted.

Most broken cases i've seen were usually beyond repair. When they go they usually seem to go in style. I wish you the best of luck.

I havn't pulled it yet. It (the Case) is not broken. The lever for 2wd to 4wd high seemd to turn nothing but 4wd low can be felt ingaging but the front wheel does not turn. I will pull it. I want to see how it is built anyway.
