Does an 88 Ranger Xtra Cab 2.9 have 2 fuel pumps?
My Chiltons book is conflicting. It says that 89 and up have 2 but the 88 has a high pressure pump along the frame rail and does not mention the one in the tank. Maybe i need to re-read that particular section?
Is a standard cab version a bit different with the fuel setup? :icon_confused:

my 88BII has two pumps one in the tank and one on the drivers frame rail
under the door and yes if u are under the truck u will hear both pumps buzz

Yeah, 88 should all be dual pump. '89 is another story. Most had single pumps BUT, some had dual and some had no electric pump.
The high pressure pump on the frame rail requires a primer pump. It won't pull the fuel from the tank without burning up.

Thanks for the quick replies. I assumed it had 2 on the basis that is cost more to fix-LOL!

It is not all that hard to convert to a single pump. I've done a few Rangers.
The only hard part is building new fuel lines. If you could find an '89 or '90 bII that you could rob the whole fuel system from, It will all bolt right in. The single pump gives you one less part to have a problem with.
The parts stores now stock a line that will directly replace the high pressure pump on the frame rail. The right high pressure/in tank pump will directly replace the primer pump and everything just plugs in. I don't have the part numbers though.
