88 Ranger 2.9L trans shifts hard into drive and reverse

Question

I got a 88 Ford Ranger 2.9L automatic when shifting into drive or reverse at idle the rpm's go up and it shifts into drive and reverse hard. It seams the shift pressure is to high can I adjust the Transmission Modulator to help this?

It wouldn't hurt to replace it..check to see if it has fluid in it.

Another thing, check the fluid level.sounds too low to me. like there isn't enough fluid for the pump.
