help 88 ranger died on me again
ok its a 88 2.0 carb 5spd 2wd a couple weeks ago it did the same thing( cranks but wont start....) so i put a new coil and ignition control module on it and it started up fine ran till now.... heres a list of parts that i have put new on it Coil, ICM, dizzy cap, rotor. i took the plugs out and cleaned them up and the wire look fairly new so i didnt touch them..... any ideas on whats wrong

OK...just like my old truck...

If this was sudden, a bit more information is needed...so far we only know that it cranks but doesn't start...that could be a few things...

a) you're out of gas (or gas is not getting into the carb)

II) your electrical system is failing to provide spark (this is more complex)

3) you have a serious vac leak...

four) your carb is wonky...

It would help to know if you've checked any of those and how you did it...we can provide tips and tricks...the first one is on me...

To check the gas flow to the carb remove the breather and move the accelerator slightly...you should both see and smell gas...if you neither...you may be either out of gas (I know, this is basic but you'd be surprised...) or the flow is not getting to the carb...remove the filter and crank the engine...gas should flow if your manual pump is working...

The manual pump on these engines can go wonky when the diaphram breaks...and it is simple to replace...

update im gettin spark from the coil and i just replaced the fuel filter and replaced the plugs... sitll nothing

OK...are you getting spark to the plugs?

To check that, pull off the boot of one of the plugs, stick a screwdriver into the boot so that it contacts the metal clip, crank the engine (you may need help with this step) and hold the screwdriver close to some metal like the valve cover...you should see it arc out between the valve cover and screwdriver...

Do that in the dark if you can so it's easier to see the spark...

Did you check for gas flow to the carb?
