Dang, that is a lot darker than I thought.

The inside is somewhat darker, I figured it was because being inside it there is both less light and less fading. Not sure if it is that dark though. :icon_confused:

I like the color though, wish I could find more examples of this "fleet green".

Edit:
Never really thought about Ford doing custom colors for fleets:

http://www.fleet.ford.com/orders/vehicle-special-order/

I wonder if that is why this color is so sporadic, if they only made that color of truck (up until 2009) when it was ordered. So is it just a stock custom color or one fleet doing a buy every couple years? '88 to '09 is a pretty good stretch for a fleet though. If so I wonder who's fleet it is?

So many questions I doubt I will ever get answers to.

Glad this thread came up. I've got one of those former fleet trucks too. It's a 2000 2wd extended cab and has two odd ball paint codes on the door jamb, W0069 and W7406. I'd scratched my head over these cause they wouldn't cross reference. Now with this thread I added a "T" to both and they cross reference. First is Fleet White and second is Fleet Dark Green, it's had a poor repaint at some point and is all green now.

Forestry service or dept of wildlife maybe?

The thread in the main discussion about where to get OEM paint is what got my wheels turning to figure out what color the doors on my truck started out as.

Forestry service or dept of wildlife maybe?

That was my first guess but then how would it end up in Iowa? And looking online most forestry trucks are kind of a nasty pastel pea grean.

I did some driving today and thus had time to think about it. Dad has a '80 K20 former Burlington Northern truck, since a main line goes through town that would make sense. I might poke around in it and compare colors, due to a very bad wax job it is really fogged up now. I know it still has all the paperwork in the glovebox from when it was ordered, everything was speced out down to what ball they wanted in the custom grate bumper hitch. I am pretty sure they have the color in there too, maybe I can work from that angle and see if it meets with the same offbrand paint codes (Dupont, Shirwin Williams...) that my Ranger's color has. It would still depend on if they speced out Ford's and Chevy's to the same color but it is something.

Kinda cool to think dad's K20 and parts of my Ranger might have been partners in crime before.

I told dad my theory and he said his K20 had just been repainted when he got it in the late 80's so it may not even the correct color to start with.. and so the plot thickens.

I can tell the Chevy had been repainted but both shades were metallic. Going through the paperwork it was a Union Pacific truck, we heard it was railroad and just assumed it was Burlington Northern because they were local and used green. It was shipped to the Chevy dealer in North Platte and in 1986 had a card it could use commercial fuel in Wyoming... so it wasn't from around here.

So B-N is still my top guess for my Ranger color...
