So I've got an 88' Ranger 2.9L 4x4 single cab manual trans. yatta yatta yatta and Ive noticed Im running at 2500 R.P.M at just 65 m.p.h. So I was wondering if I could swap out gears in the rear diff that could lower that R.P.M and maybe get some more speed..... I've got no idea what gears I have now, and I have no idea what gears i could use to lower that RPM at that speed.....if there are any. Any help would be much obliged.

You don't really want to put higher gears back there. You probably have 3.45s, which are already too high for what you have.

From what I've been able to gather scouring through the forum and seeing who has done what, the best combo for top speed and fuel economy, seems to be 4.10 gears with 2/65/75/15 tires. That's what I plan to go with anyway. One member claims to have nabbed about 26.5 MPG highway with that setup.

Lots of people sell gears. If you regear one axle, you HAVE to regear the other, unless you never plan on using 4x4. Or else you will blow up drivetrain parts. Also, a gear install is NOT a trivial matter, and is not a bolt in affair. Read this:
