88 f250 with tranny problems

i have an 88 f250 ext cab 4x4, it has the 351 with an auto trans, i was pulling in to walmart and i had no forward gears, i have just put a rebiult motor in it and also had to replace the front pump seal. i have drove about 300 miles and then this. i still have revers just nothing forward, i dont have an e40d but it does have 1-2-d-n-r-p. i have heard it could be the valve body needing replaced. i dont want to drop more money into the trans if it needs replaced

The only transmission option sounds like a C6. What's the fluid look like? Very seldom slapping a valve body on any transmission is a fix. You could try adjusting the bands but that's a slim chance on being a fix as well. Do you have anything in manual 1st? If so the forward clutch is shot.

has new fluid in it and its full, i have no forward gears at all. i have tried every gear and rev is the only working one
