HI ive got an 88 ranger v6 the dual tanks. My problem is that when i switch the tank to rear there is red wire starts to melt. Also there is no power to either rear tank or at the switch unless i jump the circuit. I tried disconnected the forward pressure pump on the left frame and it runs when jumped and the truck starts if i put the fuel line in a 5 gallon gas can. The truck runs great and is in excellent condition otherwise. I saved it from the crusher one day. Any help would be appreciated maybe a procedure to follow. Also an idea of how the dual tank setup works and its components. Thanks.

sounds like the selector valve is malfunctioning.it is on the frame, has 6 fuel lines going into it and an electrical connector with(i think)5 wires.

i replaced the selector valve still no power to any of the pumps any idea where i can get a wiring diagram?

ok,the reason i figured the selector valve was that red wire melting-this means you have a short somewhere.the red wire is the switch feed to the selector valve, but the low pressure pump in the forward tank also uses a red wire.if that pump is siezed it would create a short as well.i would be inclined to pull the box off the truck to get better access to the tops of the tanks.this will make the job of troubleshooting the system much easier than trying to get at it from the bottom.you'll probably need to pull pumps.

If a wire starts to melt then somewhere you've got a short
