Hi, so im really new to bronco's and fords in general. i just bought a 88 bronco II at an abandonded car auction for $75! it was a killer deal! the truck is in decent shape. it needs some work. ha. but if i cant get it to start then it does me no good! at first i couldnt get it to do anything when i turned the key. all the electrical came on but it wouldnt crank. ive been reading into it a little and i did some of the things that i found and thought might help. i replaced the starter sileniod, the ignition switch, and the battery cables. i jumped the starter at the sileniod and it turned over but woulnt start. now im kinda stuck. so any advice would be very appreciated!! thanks

See if you can get it to start with a wee bit of starting fluid. Do you hear the fuel pump kick on?

could only hear a clicking noise. i think its comin from the back. not sure if thats the fuel pump

Does the power cut out when you try to start it with the keys, like when you turn to start it, do the lights turn off? Check all your grounds.

yes it does. and like the grounds going to the battery? are there other grounds i should check?

There are several ground in the engine bay, but the most important is the one off of the battery, it goes down and connects to the engine. Remove it,clean it and reattach it, also make sure your battery terminals are tightened down good.

Also check all the plugs in the engine bay, make sure none of them are frayed or unplugged, don't forget to make sure the distributor plug in plugged in.

i replaced that wire yesterday. along with the positive one going to the solenoid. and cleaned the one going to the starter. it was still good. and cleaned the terminals.

Well tell us the basics is it getting fuel? is it sparking? Theres probaly a reason you got it for $75. how many miles on it? Have you checked the spark plugs? Have you performed a standard tune up yet? Come back here and let us know once youve replaced your plugs plug wires etc. Also check the distributor unscrew it these things are notorious for destroying themselves. Do you have enough fuel for sure? these things often have a bad gas gauge. The list can go on and on just keep trying but start with the basics. Fuel, spark, air. Also replace your battery sounds like its toast that clicking i think is your starter trying to engage without enough juice mine does the same clicking when it doesnt have enough power. Once you replace your battery come back here and let us know. Or cut your losses now and part out everthing or take it to a j yard and get like 200 bucks. Theres 2 turns you can take now and its the same i had when i got my bronco II either get rid of it and cut your losses. Or keep working at it and dumping money into it. how much that might be no body knows i hope it goes well for you. I bought my B2 for 350 and have probaly sunk 700 dollars into it 1050 not bad for a running 4x4. Before you start sinking money into it id reccomend taking it to get an inspection by a mechanic its fairly cheap really. Find the mechanic in town that will give you the most points inspection and take it there, beyond incredibly abstract problems theyll find your problems and deliver them to you on a neat sheet of paper.

ill check those things. i got it for 75 bucks because it was at a car auction. the min. was 50. i already have another vehicle. i bought this one to be a project! its got fuel. i put it in myself. the plug wires are good. they are new. and its just one click. when i turn the igntion to the on position. when i go to turn it on nothing happens. i only got it to crank when i jumped the solenoid. i would like to fix the ignition problem first.

so i got spark too. i dont have any fuel pressure at the fuel rail. im pretty sure i hear the fuel pump turnin on but im not positive. its a clicking noise. it happens like 2 or 3 seconds after i turn the key to the on position.

Is the check engine light on? If so pull the codes. If not Just check the b2 front top to bottom and front to back!
