the old man and i are starting a new project it is a 1988 b2 with the great a4ld auto trans. the damn thing has a cracked case and is well junk. i have an auto trans out of the super beast that i took out about 5 years ago. and my cuzzin has an auto trans out of a 92 exploder.

so my question is what is diffrent from the 87, the 88 , and the 92 a4ld tans...?

'87 to '88 the only real difference is the 87's TC is controlled by the ECU and the 88 has both OD and the TC controlled by the ECU, hence two wire vs three wire plug.

The '92 will have a different shifter as well as larger tranny cooler lines IIRC, as well as a three wire plug.

The '92 would be the strongest due to it being built for a 4.0L
