Hey guys, great forum, so much information here however i had a question i was unable to find.

I just bought a 1988 lincoln markvii with the 302ho which i plan on pulling out to throw in my 86 ranger 4x4.

The motor itself seems to be in good shape and run great however the cooling system is extremely corroded. Im in the middle of replacing all the lines however im not sure where to get the steel 'runner lines' that attach the heater core to the pump that run along the intake on the passenger side. I believe there is a temperature sensor on one of the lines that enters into the intake as well. Are these a dealer item? Or do most people eliminate them and use flexible line instead of the two steel lines? Thanks for any help!

I see its your first post, welcome to the forums!

Im not sure how your steel lines are, but I couldn't use mine because they were too close to the firewall and the heater hoses couldn't be ran around the heater box. I used standard heater hose and it worked fine.

Kinda glad you asked the question before I brazed that little tube shut, bead blasted and painted mine... :icon_thumby:

I used the hard lines. They are similar on Mark VII and Mustang.

Look on an F150 or other vehicle, you could probably use any of them if you try.

The ones off a 5.0 Explorer have a fancy 90degree bend at the firewall end that make the heater soft lines to the firewall a breeze.

thanks for the welcome, this site has been so helpful as far as planning for the swap goes.

Teddyzee - awesome! ill have to take a peak at some local junkyards.

Im going to throw some heater hose in there for now and go from there. Thanks for the replies.

Teddyzee, do you have pics of your heater hose routing at the firewall? Just wondering how it looks...

I looks like crap! Just spliced a couple hoses together. I'll dig up pics or take
New ones on Sunday, I'm out of town now.
You can't actually see them.

Haha, take your time on the pics, it's no hurry. I'd like to use the steel lines on my current project for a cleaner look, just looking for ideas on how to do it.

It's ugly, but you can't really see it. The whole engine bay is going to be cleaned/painted/re-wired before I drive it again, including the cutting the rest of the heater box (AC part) off, and replacing all the coolant hoses.
But here it is... The green wire is a vacuum line, and the Cruise cable is disconnected for some reason...

Just an overall shot, to prove it's well hidden!

^^ That worked out really well

So i had another question here guys, i went to a local parts store and got all the supplies today. I pulled out the sensors that are a part of the system (one is screwed into one of the steel lines close to the water pump, and the other is mounted using a tee joint in between rubber heater hose behind the motor. Does a weird 180 before it reaches the heater core.) Anyway i got a replacement for the sensor in the steel line (engine coolant temperature) but they were unable to locate the other that sits behind the motor? Is this simply just another coolant temp sensor for the engine temp gauge in dash and can it be eliminated? Thanks for any advice.

couple more details about this unknown sensor

- looks similar to the ect sensor however the diameter of the sensor itself is larger

- instead of a tapered brass cone to measure temperature like the ect, this one just has a flat bottom but is also brass

- connector has 2 pins, one yellow and one black wire

- stamped on sensor 316307 E5SH-18D417-AA CELO SW 8AD4

after a few hours of digging i believe ive answered my own question. I believe this sensor is the CELO (cold engine lock out).

"Its function is to prevent blower operation when heating is required and the engine coolant temperature is below 120 Deg. F"

Im not familiar with this at all, anyone have any more information on how this thing works?

I think the hoses look fine like that Teddyzee, and certainly better than the other option of running them through the engine compartment out in the open. I like it the way you have it done.
