Does it puke out the overflow? The most common cause would be a small drip type leak on a hose or other place in the cooling system. Then there is a failed thermostat. Then there is a leaky head gasket. Then there is a partially stopped up radiator. Then there could be the blades on the coolant pump rusted away.. Also don't forget the fan..could be defective..
To start off tell us how and when it seems to be over heating. Could also be a faulty sending unit..

Mine was overheating and I couldn't tell why. Pulled the rad and the fins were all full of crud - I couldn't see it when it was mounted because of the A/C.
check the thermostat.... mmm if it is overheating going down the road then roll down the windows and turn the heater on high pointed at the floor. it will blow the heat off of the motor and keep it relatively cool. I would reccomend changing the thermostat and see if that helps with your problem
