I have found an 87 Turbocoupe that has been sitting for several years now (5+) Guy bought it wrecked for body parts and found rust so went another direction. I want the motor for another project. I was wondering if there is anything specific to this motor that I need to look for due to sitting. I know the general things to check, but am curious if there is any special problems with this motor? Thanks for any input. Also, planning on rebuilding back to stock, and good cheap full rebuild kits to look for, and where?

cool find, i hope you can get it for cheap. i'm a huge thunderbird fan! if i remember, those motors are known to blow head gaskets..... wait, back up, those are the super coupes (3.8l v6).

ford turbo coupe V4? ok, those blocks are known to be tanks. i heard somewhere that the bottom end can take 50psi boost at the dragstrip all day long. bad part is the v4 weighs a ton for what it is. if i had one to play with, i'd clean it up, give it some new top end gaskets and a huge turbo (with new by pass and blowoff valve). maybe get a belt driven cam with adjustments to help the turbo out at high psi.

i was part of a thunderbird racing league, they have a huge forum, i think it was tccoa.com thunderbird and cougar club of america. they didnt have too many turbo coupe's, but the ones they had were fast. hope this helps
