87 to 88 ranger 2.9l A4ld swap

HI, I need some help. My son bought a 87 A4ld to go in his 88 A4ld 2.9l ranger. I understand the 87 has a single solenoid and 2 wires, the 88 has a double solenoid and three wires. Is there a wiring fix for this? If not what else would have to be done.
