Ok so I have an 87 stx standard cab with no motor. Ive bought an 89 thats been wrecked but has a good motor, It also has a good super cab. Now I didnt intend to use the cab but now im leaning towards it. My question is how difficult will it be to put the super cab on my standard frame? Can I get away with bobbing the bed or is there more to itthen that? Any insight will be greatly appreciated

Rear cab mounts and a bed bob to fit the bed to the rear wheels at a minimum

Its more complicated than that. The frame rises after the cab so the sloped section will ve under the super cab floor on a regular cab frame.

It might work, but you need a body lift for the front few mounts.

Yep, the frame rises enough that you either have to have a 4 to 6 inch body lift to clear it or you could cut out the back end of the cab a bit around the frame...but be careful with that...the mounts for the rear are on the outside of the frame rails and you could really weaken the integrity of the cab by hacking out too much...

I was considering this same swap at one time but figured it was beyond my fabrication skills and I didn't have a welder...

It can be done though...there have been a few people that did it and they do look sharp with a good bed bob...

Why wouldn't you just take the good parts off of the 87 and swap the body panels? Or is the frame damaged?

Sounds like more work than its worth, unless you are specifically looking for a project.

The frame is damaged on the 89. Im just throwing the idea right now I think the extended cab with a bobbed bed would look pretty cool and be unique. And it is a project viechel for sure

I have looked at a lot of potential non-factory body configurations. I have concluded that if you are going to go to all the trouble of doing this kind of thing you might as well bob the bed, bob a BII, and put the BII body on the Ranger frame, with the bed.

I really like the wheelbase of the standard cab short bed, im thinking with having both frames and all the body mounts i can cut them off and mount them to get it to work. or at lest im hoping i can lol. i could section in some of the excabs fram but i wont to keep the shorter wheelbase
