87 ranger stx front axle swap

i recently just bought an 87 ranger stx and my first intentions are to make it into a street/ strip truck. The first and most essential task im looking to complete is getting rid of the 4x4 and making it just rear wheel drive. Does anyone know of any front end that will fit in place instead of the front differential axle? Maybe a mustang front end or something similar to it? If anyone has any ideas i really would appreciate it. Thanks for the help guys.

if its a hi-rider i would sell it and get a 2wd.

there is nothing on a stock 87 ranger worth racing as far as axles/suspension are concerned.


adapting the common m/2 suspension or some modified coilover aerostar adaptation is doable for sure....

but ditching the 4x4 chassis is by far the best way to go. the 2wd tib offers more room for hp.

yeah i was thinking the same thing i bought the truck for cheap so i know i can flip it and make some money. Is it common to remove a 4x4 front end to make into a steet truck? Im assuming its been done before and quite often..?

no....the 2wd/4wd versions of most rangers for the major suspension beams of this vintage are different in the front chassis with no direct bolt in interchange save for brakes/steering links and radius arms.


lowering a 4wd for launch has been done but its futile due to the weakness of the stock front axle.
