ok i got a 1987 ranger xlt with 2.9 4X4, 5 speed.

on my tranny i got 2 wires that go for the back up lights and 2 more that go up by the shifter. i was wondering what the 2 wires that go to the top of the tranny are for. if i unplug it my engine revs when i start it, also if i have it in gear when i start it. but it don't do this if it is in neutral. This is got me lost and I really would like some help

Uhhh.. RELAX!

Nobody saw it yet.

The two wires are for a neutral sense switch but I've never heard of
the symptom you describe from it being disconnected...

Stalling when rolling up to a traffic light yeah, but...
