Hello all and thank you for having me,

I recently purchased an 1987 Ranger, have had nothing but HEADACHES, Firstly the transmission seal blew out 2 blocks away after buying the truck, Got that back 500$ later,

Now it just runs really weird, The motor will idle great somtimes and stall out other times, If Im cruising around 45 the motor starts sputtering, and seems like it wants to cut out until I mash on the gas and it picks up, its like its dropping cylinders,

I just replaced the whole distributor, the ICM the coil, and plugs,
It seems like its an electrical problem, the only thing I can see that I didnt change is the silver tube looking thing on the coil housing, dont know what its called,

Ive looked for vacuum leaks and can find none, Anyone have any clues?

Btw, i purchased a code scanner, it was throwing all sorts of ignition related codea before i changed everything, i also replaced my egr valve, im getting two codes still, one for air temp sensor and one for o2 sensor think those two things coukd cause these troubles?

Yes.

Ok, So i was getting an Air charge temp sensor code, changed it out, the old one looked like CRAP, I also cleaned the IAC valve, Some nice carbon build up,
The idle seemed to have smoothed out alot, But would an IAC effect the way a motor would run say doing 45? That seems to be the magic speed that this problem starts, I took my alternator out and had it tested and it tested good,
Code reader is still throwing an EGR code at me, I changed the EGR, next is the egr pressure sensor, Gonna get that from a junk yard, damn 60 bucks......

Its also throwing an o2 code at me, always lean condition,
I can only find one, its on the cross pipe that connects the two exhaust pipes into one before the cat

Last thing I can do is the o2 sensor................

Ok, so the problem seemed to clear up in the 2 miles I drove it tonight,

I changed the MAP sensor, and the egr pressure sensor and the egr vacuum solenoid, I think the o2 sensor may still be toast due the fact exhaust still smells a little rich.

Ill let you all know how it goes on my daily commute tomorrow.

Well the problem went away, ran like a top on my drive to work. Im still getting a code 31.and 41 but, i replaced the entire egr system, so i think its just stored codes.
