alright well my clutch is starting to go on me and instead of spending the money to replace my stock clutch, when she does go out, i would rather swap to a t5, in the future (clutch might last till then) i wanna do the 2.3T swap and want the t5 (cable clutch) instead of the mazda tranny. so i was wondering does the t5 bolt up to the 2.0 engine? what do i need to do to make it all fit, and how long should this usually take, as my main transportation i dont wanna be in the shop for a week doin a tranny swap.

any info would be greattttttt

thanks

I THINK that the 2.0 and 2.3 have the same bolt pattern so it should bolt in place. I THINK.

I have had my transmission out twice now since thanks giving. Once to replace the tranny and clutch, once to replace the slave. The first round took me 4 days, the second one took me 2. Could have been done on the first day if I hadn't been so tired/sore from having done it already so recently ( and a few other things).

The hardest part of this will probably be the cable clutch setup. Mods always take the longest, thats why it only took me 1/2 the time the second time, it was in and out, not modding this time.

A shop might be able to do it in a day or two, but its gonna cost you. My knowledge is mostly in the v-6 area, so I'm sketchy on the 4-cyl specifics. Hopefully one of the 4-banger guys will chime in on this with better info.

And I'm 100% sure that they're the same. Don't know anything about the clutch setup though.

If you get your T-5 from an '87-88 thunderbird they didn't use a cable clutch.

They used a hydraulic clutch with an external slave cylinder.

The system was remarkably similar to that used on '83-84 Rangers

I am however NOT a fan of the T-5 trans.

Frankly I'd rather have a Mazda from an '88-up 4cyl ranger with a Hurst shifter on it.

SWEET! well i know 100% that the 87-88 turbo coupes used a hydrolic clutch and external slave. ill be pulling tranny and motor most likely. the cable clutch is fairly easy install, i kno a guy who changed over his turbo coupe to cable. less to worry about (slave cylinder, fluids etc) and a clutch cable is a cheap replacement.

I agree with AllanD, much easier to find a mazda tranny, I've been beating up on mine with the turbo engine and it's got 200K on it, doesn't seem to care... and while you are there you can grab the driveshaft
