87 4X4 2.9 not getting fire?

Here's the problem, was driving dwn road and it just quit, like i just ran out of gas. No warning what so ever. Look on forum for a reason why. Here's what I've done so far. Check fuel pumps and relays, their clicking and humming like they should. Check plug with it out of truck and wasn't gettihg any fire, so I did the coil thing. Hook plug to coil wire and grounded plug, then took grd from coil side and touce to body with key on and it fired ea time i touch grd. My question is could this still be a fuel problem or something in the dist. Don't won't to spend a ton for a small problem, just had it towed. Newby here and all comments needed. if your getting fire from the coil but not getting fire at the plugs it's your ECM on the distributer is toasted, u can have it tested

check the module under the distributor

yeah that TFI module on the back of the distributor is a common problem for ford trucks just replace it and you should be good to go. but remember it needs the di electric grease or it will burn up and you'll have the same problem
