I am finishing up my 4.0 swap and I'm having issues figuring out what has to be sliced at the firewall on the drivers side going to the dash. Donor vehicle was a 93 explorer 4x4 with auto trans which i used. My vehicle is a 87 ranger 2.9 auto 4x4. If anyone has diagrams showing which wires to hookup that would be great Or somewhere to find some decent diagrams online. My Chiltons is confusing me?

keep the explorer eec intact all the way through the pdb and lay it in...pretty much hook your crank/run up to the explorer pdb. use the oil pressure and temp units from the 2.9 if you want to keep that stuff.

I've run all the wiring except everything that needs to be spliced at the drivers side fire wall. I got diagrams from all data and they don't seem to match exactly.

These may be the ones you already have, but here they are

I have the service manuals for 1992, I'll see if I can find the pin out diagram for the big plug that goes on the driver's side firewall from the explorer.

You mean to tell me it's not a plug and play system you can't take 1990--94 with all the harness everything and make it work in a 1991--89 ford bronco II Or a 1990--92 franger and just swap it over even if it had a 2.3 or 3,0 the 3.0 wire harness connecter looks almost the same as the 4.0 connecter

no. its an 87. i assume he has 87 connectors on the engine side of the firewall. not a bullet setup.

these days i just do all duetche or gm weather pak style. unless i can find pristine oem connections to make jumpers.

leaving his pdb intact just run the red green stripe to the power side of the diode and the red/blue to the starter.

from there if keeping the oem dash/gauges fit up the oem senders and hook those up to the wires on the ranger...

same for options as needed...ac-cruise ect

Well those are pretty much the same diagrams I had to go by. So far I've got it cranking over but no spark. I do have power to the pcm and icm and coil.

Update! Running. But only when I jump starter solenoid. Just turns by key . but is running really rich. And died several times. May have a having leak.
