Hi, well, I've got this problem with the Ranger that's driving me nuts...I've got a high pitched "squeak" and no one seems to be able to pin it down...it only occurs whe the engine is running and it kinda sounds like a short whistle burst...the most definitive answer I've gotten so far was from a mechanic who says I might try replacing the engine mounts...anybody have any idea if that would work or any other (constructive, haha) suggestions???? thanks very much ya'll...

Personaly, I don't see why it would be the motor mounts.

My first thought would be a vacuum leak.

Does it do it all the time, some of the time, only under partial to no throttle, only full throttle, when does it do the whistle?

I had a squeak that drove me nuts, it turned out to be a loose body mount in the right front corner.
