86 ranger stops running

Just picked up a 86 ranger 2.3. after a 1/2 hour running the idle pedal need to be feathered to keep running and it stopped running after that. Let it sit for 30 minutes and it started back up. Could this be the fuel pump or the module? Thanks in advance.
