86 Ranger Mod list suggestions..

lethal, the muffler that your vehicle has, (or lack there of) is completely irrelevant to the emissions standards/readings that your vehicle puts out

i blew it up the important part for you, since you missed it.

i see, i also saw it when he said it, and cataverters still isn't a word in any dictionary that i've ever seen... including l33t Klingon, and haxxor

Well. Got the truck back up north. Seems to be running well, until today I noticed it idling rough & would all of a sudden loose power under part throttle. I was thinking a fuel pressure regulator issue, so I unplugged the vacuum line going to the FPR & now the truck is running awesome! Actually I was quite impressed how well its running with a FPR with no vacuum line connected. I guess I'll also be replacing the FPR with the countless other things that have been replaced within the last month. I'll try to post up tomorrow about what all has been done to the truck. Im just not the fastest typer & pretty tired. Long story short for now, it turned out awesome. I still have to get the radius arms & explorer rear leafs, but that can wait for the time being with all the other surprises I found, a lot more money was spent than expected.

you know exactly what they meant when they said it, don't be a pedantic ****.

Ok, so here is what has been done to the truck so far...

-Front fenders replaced with fiberworx 3" front fenders (cant recommend them, passenger side mold came out clean, but the drivers side mold is off. Not what i expected for 450 shipped.)
-valve cover gaskets replaced with rubber gaskets.
-new plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, thermostat, all belts, all hoses.
-MSD ignition coil.
-Factory exhaust replaced with 2 1/2" Flowmaster 50 series muffler & piped to terminate just after the rear axle.
-Rear frame crossmember replaced with Reese 2" receiver hitch, reinforced with 2" square tubing welded inside the 2 1/2" hitch crossmember tubing & also braced with 3/4" chromoly tubing welded from the hitch crossmember tubing to the inside of the truck frame rail at a 45 angle.
-Bed panels "popped" out to match the front.
-Stock coils replaced with Skyjacker 2" coils.
-All shocks replaced.
-All front ball joints replaced & tierod.
-31x10.50R15 BFG A/T KO's on black 15x7 wheels.
-Front 1" wheel spacers.
-Pulled the front carpet to find it moist underneath from coolant that caused some rusting & holes that needed to be replated. When I replaced the hoses I discovered that one of the heater hose clamps were only finger tight at the core. :pissedoff:
-Floor was repaired & truck lined.
-Replaced worn out power door lock actuators.
-Drivers door was cracked where the power window mounts to it, so that was welded.
-Stereo replaced with pioneer deck & Infinity Kappa 6"x9"s mounted in the door with build outs. Still may mount some Infinity Kappa 5 1/4"s in the factory dash spots if I can retain my original dash when I do a 4.0L swap... I guess i still need to research that more.
-Rear sliding "farm" window replaced with solid rear tinted window.
-I decided to go with bright white for paint, so the truck is has been repainted.
-All fluids from the differentials, t-case, tranny, & coolant have been changed.
-Front fenders trimmed & front bumper trimmed.

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head, Im sure there is more im forgetting which i'll post up when i remember. LOL. Now the list of whats still to come.
-Autofab extended radius arms & front reservoir shocks.
-Explorer rear leafs.
-Electric fan setup to replace non working clutch fan.
-4.0L V-6, unless I decide to swap something else in. I was debating a Supercharged 3.8L V6 I found for a good deal if I can make it work with my configuration. All the swaps I seen with this motor were on a 4x2 truck. I also have a thread about this in the 3.8/4.2 section. So please help if you have any knowledge on this swap...
-Front tubular bumper with 2" receiver for quick mount winch.
-Rear Locker, Front LSD
Its been a heck of a project, but is turning out nicely. I haven't seen another 86 in this condition so far. I will try to get pics up soon.

back pressure is such joke, removing the cat will not hurt the truck, itll run fine, removing the egr will result in u needing a 88 or newer computer as there non egr

What will the truck do if you remove the egr and dont change the computer? 1986 Ranger STX 2.9L auto 4X4.

Well guys I got a bunch of pics on my phone, but up where I live my phone is in roaming & wont let me send the pics to my email. Tomorrow I have to go down to Coeur D'Alene & ill get them sent over while down there so hopefully they will be posted tomorrow night. Took the Ranger on its 1st snow bogging trip today. It did quite good for open diffs. There was no other rigs with me, so when it got about 2' I turned around. Didnt want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere without a winch. LOL. By the way I forgot to add on the future mod list is a tubular front bumper with a 2" receiver mount since I will be getting a quick mount winch for it. I'll just make a bracket for the front license plate to mount there when the winch is not in use. Also, I think a locker will be going in back with a good limited slip up front.

leave the egr on... it doesn't do any harm if it's working properly... it should be closed fully when you're on the throttle, and only open at an idle, when the engine is warm... and it actually will improve fuel economy...

The red part of that is backwards. EGR flow at idle will stall the engine. It's closed at idle and flows at highway speeds while cruising or coasting when the wheels are driving the engine. EGR gas is used to displace air/fuel mix when you are meeting conditions that say to the computer "I don't need a ton of power right now". The lower air fuel mix plus the already hot EGR gas helps push the cylinder down with less fuel because you don't need as much energy to get the hot, compressed, exhaust gas expanding again.

Get pissed off on the highway.

Changing the computer has other benefits too. It gets a later calibration in there that will make it run a little better. I track my fuel mileage regularly and I seem to have gained a few tenths of a mile when I switched to the 88 computer. Doesn't sound like a lot, I know, but every bit counts.

Until you lose the O2 sensor one day and it starts back firing. Then the converter shell literally blows up.

i think i'm getting the EGR partially mixed up with the charcoal canister?

i don't know what the hell i'm thinking now...

Well I tried sending some pics from my phone to my email, but they aren't there. Ill have to try again this weekend.
