I've never done a motor swap before and im having a problem with geting it running. I have 86 ford ranger ext. cab, it was a 2.3 n/a, 5-speed, 2wd. I took a motor uot of an 86 t-bird 2.3 turbo coupe. It all bolted up fine but I really dont know anything about electrical, so if I could get some help on what I need to have hooked up or rewired. My biggest problem is I have no fuel pump prime and no crank. I do have the t-bird motor, harnes, and ECM. What could be the problem?

I had this exact problem with my swap and it could be the same or completely unrelated. I re-pinned the stock harness to match the tbird ecu and added the couple wires for the vam and nothing seemed to happen when i turned the key. what ended up being the problem was the relay that turns power on to the computer. we checked it and it appeared to be bad so we just ran a jumper and that did the trick. immediately the pump primed and i was able to start it. i have still not been able to find a relay to replace it. My relay was Brown but it was once replaced already so i dont know if it will be the same if yours is stock. I picked up a replacement but it didnt work either. Try it and see. let me know if this is a common problem or just coincident

there area couple of plugs Im not sure what to do withthe first one is coming from the turbo coupe harness and ecu....the second is coming from the truck harness that runs from the fuse panel in cab...the third are two plugs that I beleive are for the tach, speedo etc. any help on were they go would be great. Not sure if I should splice them togethere somehow or if i need to get the fuse panel and the rest of the harness from the turbo coupe or not. Copy and paste in your browser to check them out.....

I put a TBI in my truck but it didnt have a relay on for the computer, forgot to grab it from the JY but I went to an auto parts store and bought a relay for my computer and works great.

Your links dont work. From the sounds of it your computer isnt getting power or a relay isnt to turn it on. On mine, btw the TBI isnt stock to an RBV, the computer is hooked to the solenoid. When the key is turn this turns the solenoid on allowing power to flow through it and to the computer, the relay for it, and the fuel pumps which are also hooked up to the computer, I'm not using an inertia switch. Basiclly from the sounds of it when you turn the key it isnt activating the solenoid meaning power isnt getting through your key switch. I'm not an expert but I'm going from what you are saying. Try to get the links working and that might help us out. You ned to get yourself a Chiltons wiring diagram and lok at bot your trucks and TC wiring and hoo up where stuff went to on the ranger and hook the TC to it. Take it one wire at a time. If you mess up then you more or less will fry something fast.

I'll try again

Are you using the T-bird computer and its wiring harness??? If not I would use it to make life easier. Next is to find out what the connectors on the T-bird wirng harness do and what they go to.

Yes i do have the tc wiring harness and the ecm, and im using the original ignition harness from the ranger 2.3n/a. but i dont have a a clue about what most of the clips do,the ones that dont plug in to my ranger ignition harness. i have a chiltons for my ranger but for the tc all i have is what i got off of TRS. i cant find a ignition harness diagram for the tc

You should use the T/C's wiring harness. I have a wiring diagram for an 84 Tunderbird, has the 2.3T, 3.8,and 5.0 on it if you need it. Dont know if there is much of a difference but any help is better then none? Ask me if you need it and Ill try to give it to you if you want.

Sent them to you. Wiring isnt my strongest area but if taken one wire at a time then its not to bad. Hope they help you out.

thanks for the diagrams, ive got some studying to do but ill let u know how it works out hopefully this will do it for me
