I have an 86 supercab 2.9 auto with ac.I want to change the auto out for a 5 speed.I have a 88 bronco II with 2.9 5 speed no ac.I am going to use the 5 speed and pedals out of the bronco. My question is can i use the ecu from the bronco in the ranger with no problems? I have switched over several auto explorers to manual but never a first gen ranger. Thanks

I don't have personal experience, but I think the EGR is different between the two. I'd try it anyway, it won't cost anything.

I ran an 88 in my 87 for a long time. Worked just fine.

Your EGR components will become inert. Might kill you if you have emissions tests with a sniffer, then again, might not. Other than that, you won't notice a darn thing.

I am needing an ecu for an 86 2.9 manual. What other years would interchange?

All years will work on the 86 because it is the earliest.

86 through 92 were the 2.9L years.
