I changed out the fuel filter on my '89 Bronco II....it is the canister type.....i put the new o-ring in the canister along with the filter and it leaks like crazy....i can't get the canister to seal up tight....i am about 1/16" from being completely on and the sucker is tighter than a virgin....the o-ring was a little large, but looked the same size as the o-ring that came out of the canister.....it wouldn't seat inside what looked like the o-ring seat.......

any ideas? i have already drained out a 1/2 tank of fuel trying to get the fuel filter changed........

also, how do i stop the fuel from flowing? i figured that once the fuel was out of the lines, it would stop, but it just keeps going and going and going....

You used to be able to buy the whole canister from ford but, I don't think you can anymore. Now I just eliminate the canister. You can buy lines at the parts store the clip in place of the canister. If you don't have a new style filter up by the starter then you need to clip one in where the canister is. You would still need to buy the line for the return line. I've never seen a Ranger not have the sealed filter up by the starter. It is behind a metal plate so you really have to look for it. It is about 10" upstream from the High pressure pump.

do you have the lines part #'s?

fixed it by using an inline filter to clip into the supply lines and adding a piece of 1/4" fuel line inbetween the 2 return lines....it actually runs better now than it did before...i think my canister was clogged a bit...
