got a 86 ranger 2.3 for free been sitting for 13 years so i replaced both fuel pumps, filters, all four injectors, relays, distributor, spark plugs, plug wires, ignition coil, distributor, fuel tank, ignition lock cylinder, and finally the computer still not running on its own but does run on starting fluid have constant power to positive on injector plug with key on and have fuel to the fuel rail :dunno:

After trying to start it, pull one of the plugs and sniff for gas...if it is not getting any gas then maybe the controller for the injectors is not working...not sure what that controller is, but if you have fuel at the rail but not at the cylinder then your injectors are not firing...maybe...

ill have to check tomorrow morning but it does run on starting fluid

Yes, all the more reason to suspect the injectors...

But starter fluid is also much more flamable than gas so it could also be not enough spark...

My Tempo distributor got wet once and it would not start on normal gas but would fire right up with quick start sprayed directly into the TB...

read deeper into it on other forums unplugged the MAP sensor and it started right up

Well that's good to hear...

My Tempo had a MAP sensor that went wonky but it didn't stop it from starting...it would idle sporadically and die if I didn't blip the pedal, but it would otherwise start fine...I replaced it with a $5 junkyard MAP sensor and that fixed all the weirdness...

If you can find an 89 or similar Tempo in the junkyard grab the MAP...or take two just in case. I think they had MAP sensors on Rangers up to 89 also...they are all the same from what I've seen...

there was no vacuum line running to it gonna try that if not just get another sensor

That should sort it out...vacuum is needed to work them...how long has it not been working properly? And did you notice the vac line missing before?

truck was given to me after sitting for 13 years just got it running
