Gotcha, what about the two vacuum lines that run to it? It runs to the passenger side

ok thanks im sure theres threads on how to bypass it so im not even going to bother asking.
Ok you guys are amazing, i pretty much have a clear understanding of whats what now and how this tfi garbage works (kinda).
Im working on cleaning out the engine bay until my parts arrive so i can figure out where the oil leak is coming from. Theres literally oil and dirt everywhere. Atleast nothing is rusty underneath.

there is a harness ive attatched photos of, one is next to driver side headlamp, and other one runs to transmission from engine bay, and there is a unplugged harness hanging from the transmission area. Any ideas what these are? Can i remove the harness thats plugged into the transmission?

The top valve is the thermactor divertor valve, it changes where thermactor air is sent- upstream to the back of the heads or downstream to the exhaust in front of the cat. The lower part is the bypass valve, it dumps the air under certain conditions. When the engine is cold and running rich thermactor air would likely cause backfire.

Is it ideal to bypass it or completely delete it? Do people just run a smaller belt afterwards or does there need to be a idler pulley in place?

changed thread name you guys. This is going to be my summer project and im gonna be asking ALOT of questions.

In the process of getting everything clean so I can find all the leaks. So far im thinking , rear main, valve cover, oil pan, (fingers crossed it isnt) but also the front seal. Rear diff leaks from pinion seal. Power steering lines are also leaking as well, i noticed the lines are loose so thats probably the problem, hoses look brand new.

Mind you it looked 100x worse before these photos. literally everything was CAKED.
im hoping I can try blue devil rear main seal fix instead of tearing down the whole motor, not worth it.











i also wouldnt mind paying someone to just drop a whole new motor in here....

I have not worked on the 2.8 so may not be much help. You probably had cork gaskets. I like the blue Fel Pro gaskets if you can get them for the 2.8. I have had bad leaks from the valve cover gaskets.

Im sure all the buildup is YEARS of leaking oil, once its all clean i can pin point it. I just hope its nothing on the front assembly. I dont mind replacing rear main but the front main seems like more of a project

Honestly im just glad how much space i have to work with. I typically “work” on newer cars so looking at this isnt a big deal. Its not like i have to remove a whole intake assembly to replace something or pull a cv axle

Front main should be the easier of the 2. Have to pull the transmission for the rear. The front should be the radiator/fan and the crankshaft pulley.

Most of the engine bay is clean, what am i keeping as far as harnesses? Looks complicated. I still dont know what some unused harnesses are. And another harness t off from the main to the transmission, is that for a speed sensor or something?

also im looking at wiring diagrams for ignition because im honestly just going to tear everything out and just rewire the ignition stuff. whatever runs to interior on the driver side ill retain that.
can someone send a basic wiring diagram that would work? im seeing different kinds with the distro negative being wired to ground and some being wired to coil -

Ok chat the differences I was seeing was positive ground and negative ground pretty much.

ill probably perhaps wire it myself or is it better to just tap the existing wires and tear out anything else but that? What about the harnesses on the driver side?
