I have an 85 2.3 liter 2wd ranger and the steering is a bit squirrely as of late. I replaced a drag-link that had gone bad and got an alignment about six months ago. It drove much better and handled like it should. I pulled it on a rack today and checked out the front end because the steering wheel is not returning to center like it used to. Everything seemed relatively okay, but my mechanic friend could not get the exact specs so he was only able to adjust one part (camber or caster dont remember), but it didn't help. I put new heavy duty shocks on when I got home today because it was time for them, but without throwing parts at it, what specific things can I check for to diagnose and fix this condition?

Manual Steering!

my 84 does this to, but its jacked and lifted, so i need a steering stabilizer. unfortunately other than that i can really help you my friend

Take it to the nearest frame and axle and get a safety check for free. They have to tell you exactly what it needs. I replace the parts and let them do the alignment as a courtesy. They do the best job and have all the specs.

theres n adjustment screw on the steering box . back it off a little and tighten the jam nut.
