i have a 85 ranger 2.3 and when i unplug the spout conector and set my base timing to 10 btdc then tighten the dizzy but when i plug the spout back in the timing jumps to 20 btdc i was wondering if that was normal for these engines but that sounds like alot of advance for idle

Yep, mine does the same thing...... It's supposed to do that!!!! I just went to my smog appointment today and my base timing is right where I set it 6 months ago, 10 degrees with the spout unplugged

normal. the computer is adjusting the timing when you plug the spout back in

damn thanks for the fast response so i have nothing to worry about with 20 btdc at around 800 rmp (no tachometer)
