85 bronco II rotor button breaking

This will be three rotor buttons replaced in a short period time. What is the possible causes for this? Just about ready to put the old girl on the highway and let somebody else deal with her!

Not to sound stupid, but what's a rotor button? Pics would be helpful or a better idea of what you're talking about.

are you getting your distributor cap on properly? Had one break do to improper cap install.

Aside from using the wrong parts, play in the distributor shaft would be my guess.

The screws that hold the rotor in can back out and let it move around.

I had one screw back completely out and one back halfway out so the rotor declared war on the cap... and lost.

Brain malfunction, couldn't visualize it lol, sorry. Now I get it.

Thanks, I'm going with the screws backing out for now, going to add a little loctite and see how that works.
