What led me to belive that it was a tbi 2.9 is the throttlebody is labled 2.9l v6

sounds like you're on the right path, but let me explain that all fuel injection has a throttle body, that's not what makes it tbi

I know the difference between the types of fuel injection, I was simply confused about the 2.9 being tbi. Maybe I should have been more clear, the upper intake is labeled 2.9l v6. I'll post some pics of it tomorrow morning.

if that 2.9 is in good shape on the inside, I would see if I could get a wiring harness and cpu for it and run it, but I guess if you go that route, it would then be a good idea to just find a donor and 4.0 it.

that little 2.8 looks like is has seen better days, looks to need a lot of work to get it back.

Screw that, I'm not taking apart two motors if I don't have to.

I made a little more progress yesterday. I just need to unbolt the transmission from the block, and I'll be ready to pull it.

Well I finally got the motor pulled this afternoon. My hoist ran out of lift about one inch short of clearing the core support. Other than having to cut the exhaust at the cat, and then having to cut the studs that connect the Y-pipe to the manifolds; the extrication was pretty easy. When I removed the heads I was surprised that there wasn't any rust on the cylinder walls. The number four combustion chamber on the left hand head is kind of nasty but all of the others look pretty good considering. When I drained the oil out yesterday; about two and a half to three quarts of coolant came out first, and then about two and a half quarts of thick sludge came out. On to the pictures.

I'd find a 4.0 and run that. But it would be cool to see a built 2.8 too...lol
