84 smog pump set up

My son and I are rebuilding an 84 ranger 2.3. We are in a state that needs emission testing. The truck is minus this . (the smog pump).. does any have some pictures of how this is set up.. so we can get parts on right.. We do have the bracket but no pump.

sorry, no pics of the setup...if you can't find an air pump you can use an electric...I posted a how to in the Submit threads for Tech Library above...used an electric air pump from a 2004 Cavalier...

From what I recall though...the air pump was directly connected to the cat via the long tube that comes up on the inside and there was a vacuum line from the carb or intake that connected to a valve to allow the pump to be activated by vacuum at a certain rpm...never did figure mine out and that is why I tossed it...

That was fine until I got stopped by a MOE officer who gave me a $360 fine for not having it...and they told me to put the electric pump on and all would be forgiven...so I did...

Before you go ahead with this you might want to check with the local authorities as to whether it is acceptable for your state...I've heard that CA will not accept any modifications whatsoever...I should put a disclaimer in that article...might do that tomorrow...but since I don't know what some states will allow or accept it will specify to check with locals before going ahead...
