84 sending unit in a 89 ranger

im building a 89 ranger 4x4 V-8 moveing tank to rear of truck now can i rework thethe 84 sending unit with the 89 float assembly because i know there differnt Ohms can this work or am i grasping at straws any input is much needed

The only way to make it work is if the older one runs a lower ohm range, you could put a resistor in line to step it up to the correct range.
