Hello my friend own a 84 ranger 4x4 with the 2.8 v6 engine. His truck has no spark at all. We check all the wiring in the truck but the wires look good, after that, we replace the TFI module with no result and finally we replaced the ingnition coil with no success. We are fed up to search the problem we need help. Thanks you

Is the eec relay clicking when you turn on the ignition it is next to the computer on the passenger side under the plasticpanel on the side in front of the door. It should click when you turn the key on and click again a few seconds after you turn the key off.

My relay and computer were getting wet at one time and caused the connections to corrode. After you check all the connections there and under the hood pull all the grounds and sand them metal to metal. Then start troubleshooting using the tech library scroll down to the bottom for the old test procedures will normally isolate the issue.

No the relay near the eec module in the passenger kick panel doesn't work. I replaced it and it still doesn't work. It never click on. The contact on the plug look clean. I jumped the contact of the relay and no spark ?

All your coil needs is 12volt with the key in the on/starting position. If I remember right the 84 rangers get there 12volts from the tan/blue wire, like 4-5 other things feed off of it. Just hook a wire to the battery to the coil to see if that will give it spark, if not could be a problem with the dizzy, could be a bad rotor inside of it. Theres also a thick black ground wire that hooks from the coil to the engine, clean the metal contacts on it.

On thecoil it has 2 wires and a ground from the coil to the body of the truck. The first wire is light green and the other is tan. When the key is on I got 12v on bot of them. I mesured the resistance of the coil and it looks great. Does somebody can give me the complete wiring diagram of this truck including the eec pin out diagram ?

Sounds like a problem in the distributor. When cranking the + on the coil should go back and forth from 12 to 0 V. It if doesn't the pickup in the distributor might be bad.

It wont run without the computer try unplugging the spout wire that is the single wire connector wire off of the distributor connector. to check the coil put a spark plug in the coil wire off of the dizzy and set it on a good ground then turn the key on and use a jumper wire and jumper the green terminal on the coil and and quickly touch a good ground you should get spark dont hold it there just quick touches. but if the eec relay is not working it might run with the spout wire disconnected it takes the computer out of the loop and the advance will not work. Let me know if that works.

I got 12 v on the pin 1 of the eec module when the key is on I think the eec module got power. But does the ecc module drive the sprak and advance/retard to spark ?

The EEC will control spark advance yes. But it has no way to tell when exactly the spark is supposed to happen. That's the distributors job. The distributor tells the coil when to release the spark. Without signal from the distributor the coil will charge but it won't ever spark.

I tried to read the fault codes on the EEC module but I never succeed to read thoses codes. I tried on a red connector in the right fender under the hood with a similar looks of the one showed in the tech library section. Could you Tell me if tis the right connector or if its possible to read code on an EEC for a carbed ranger.

I've never tried.

Tell you what. If you live in an area that doesn't do emission testing, ditch that whole EECIV /TFI mess of BS and duraspark that bad boy. Couple hours of work for years of trouble free running.
