84 ranger 4x4 has no spark

How much does it cost to make a duraspark conversion because his budjet is really tigh and he use his truck just to make some little duty.

If you can find a donor vehicle any late 70s mustang II or pinto with a 2.8 v-6 has all you need including the carb or for new it is about $130 plus a carb but you can use the stock carb with a metering block installed where the feedback solenoid is on the back of the carb. use the tech library look under duraspark conversion and you can get a harness off of a 84 4 cylinder ranger. If you want to pull the codes print out the procedures and follow them step by step or you can get a code reader at the part store for a OBD-1 or EEC-IV they are the same and it comes with instructions. To troubleshoot the ignition as it is you need a multimeter and a schematic you possibly couldn`t pull codes until you get power to the computer and did you sand all the ground wires under the hood and at the computer. Did you try unplugging the spout wire and try and start it. I am guessing it is something simple did you follow the steps under EEC-IV diagnostics scroll toward the bottom for the old test procedures ther are easier to follow read it through all the way a couple of times and print it out so you have them there while you doing things.

We tried an other eec in the truck but the problem still persist. I would like to know were I can find the entire wiring diagram of this truck to follow it wire by wire.

You'll probably have to get a factory service manual for that. Check Ebay.

I printed the TFI worksheet on the tech library and I started to make the test. Everything work great since the test number 3 my testlite don't flicker at the negative coil when the engine is cranking. I replaced the coil but the problem is still the same ?

Did you try unplugging the spout wire from the dizzy on one of the wires from the dizzy is a connector unplug it then see if you get spark. If the relay by the computer dont click you can try putting a jumper wire in the connector from the yellow to the dk blue and did you take the connector off the computer and see if any water got in there. If the jumper wire works the computer provides a ground for the relay and the key turns it on if your getting power there key on red/lt green check for a ground from the blk/lt green. If your not getting a ground there find and sand all the ground wires metal to metal batt to engine, batt to chassis, chassis to engine and all the grounds in the loop by the computer and the coil just go from the computer to the coil and check everything good. every time you do something try and start it so you know where the fault is/was.

I jumped the relay contact but it makes no difference. I unplugged the dizzy wire near the TFI (the yellow one with a big connector on it) and nothing work:sad:

$130 for the ignition system and you can use the stock carb with a metering block where the solenoid on the back of the carb. Did you do the step by step diagnostics in the tech library it seems your jumping around and probably missing something simple. Parts are cheap at the bone yard if you can find the same year and tranny grab the computer out of it and plug it in. If you are not getting power to the computer it wont run kind of double edge sword the duraspark will eliminate the computer crap you can use the stock coil just need the dizzy ,module and you can get the harness out of a 84 4 cyl ranger with the duraspark dizzy and I believe the module as well.

Have you tried hooking a wiring from your battery dirrectly to your coil, I know this means that theres no voltage regulator to prevent ruining your coil but trying this will show if theres something wrong between your coil and the spark plug.

Another thing is there are fuses that the computer has where it hooks to the starter solinoid, one could have gone bad on you making your computer not work. But all that would do is not allow your timing to not advance.

Ok but could you tell me on wich pin on the computer pinout I am suppose to have voltage to power the computer ?

From the eec relay is a fusable link blue on the dk blue wire turns to red and goes to a junction where two wires go to the computer pins 37 and 57 and the rest go to all the solenoids and choke relay by the starter solenoid the computer controls the grounds for the solenoids you have the five on the passenger side wheel well and the feedback solenoid on the carb thru a vacuum switch if your is a manual tranny. maybe the fuseable link is blown if you jump power to any of the red wires on the solenoids it should power up the computer the one closest to the start solenoid and jumper it to the hot to the coil and it will be switched same for the hot to the eec relay but if it were me I would want the fuse link in there for overcurrent protection. Wire fires are the worst
