84 b2 tire gate

How the hell do I mount a tire to this. I just want to mount a 31 on it.

Mine was missing the original attachment hardware so I just got a couple of carriage bolts long enough, ran them through then put on a washer and lock nut to hold them in place, then put the spare tire on and a couple more washers and lock nuts. However, at some point I'm going to see if I can find a bumper with the tire carrier on the bumper, I do not like that mounting system of these carriers on the body of the vehicle.

I kind of figured it out. But I don't think it will work with my wheel...I see why the later ones was different

I don't like them at all, but putting the tire inside in the cargo area leaves the cargo area useless. kind of a tossup. Other idea would be getting a roof rack and mounting the tire up there...which is fine for stock size tires but for oversize heavy tires probably not the best solution.

I think I saw a bumper and tire carrier solution somewhere a while back that puts the spare on a swing out mount on a customer bumper rather than being attached to the side of the bronco 2 to cause damage. Not to mention the rattling noise as well from that mount.

I'm going to end up pulling the one off my choptop. Not sure what I'll do with it yet, but I do know that hauling around a 35 on it didn't work out so well. All that weight bobbing around and a little bit of rust started to do not so nice things to the body.

I picked up some steel awhile back with the idea of using it for a bumper with a swing out carrier, just haven't fully decided yet on how exactly I want to build it. I have some preferences in mind for my own bumper, but it would be easy to build one with a swing out carrier if someone wasn't too particular. Too bad you don't live closer, I could probably help you out with the fab work. Unless you want to road trip down here, lol

I have a 32 mounted on mine and it fits ok. I just reinforced all the mounting points with angle iron in the corners and plywood in the lift gate. So far so good.

Thank you JerryC for the link. That is exactly what I was thinking of. That's a very nice carrier setup, and my bronco 2 doesn't have a trailer hitch so that would kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Yep, need the money as well LOL. Although not a bad price, but I'd have to find someone to paint it. I'd think for $600+ it would at least be painted but when there aren't any options out there I guess you can't be too picky.

That is a solid bumper instead of a tube bumper.

Hmm, well kind of a tossup now, I like them both LOL. May end up going with this one as it looks like its painted.

Either way I wouldn't complain about having either one of those bumpers. It fixes that terrible stock tire mount, and gives me a trailer hitch receiver. I don't plan on towing but its nice to have the receiver even if its to hold one of those hitch mounted racks.

I agree, mine came with trailer hitch but I didn't plan to tow anything with it and took it off but put it back "just because you never know". The other day in the snow I realized i didn't have any tow hooks to use to pull a truck out of a ditch and thought that a ball mount with a D-ring would be a good thing to have. The problem with the hitch is that takes away ground clearance and is heavy.
The PO removed the carrier and latch from my BII, I don't have a spare at all and that bumper would solve a handful of things at one steep price
I'll keep dreaming and scheming...
