I'll try to keep it short.

After many little fixes to get it rolling I pulled it out of the garage in first gear, a binding drum on the back gave it a bit of resistance but it moved under it's own power.

Now new drums, rotors, etc.... drove it around the block and have problems in first and third and reverse.

First and Third feel like they engage but when I let the clutch out I can feel the teeth push the shifter out of place and out of gear.

Reverse engages fine and moves the truck fine but when I push the clutch in to get it out of reverse it makes a horrible grinding racket and jams itself in reverse pretty hard.

It has fluid. I've replaced the clutch master and slave (external).

The shifter is very sloppy and I thought perhaps that might be an issue and noticed that it is the plastic ball, tower, type. I thought the tk4 were metal shift tower, so I have some confusion on that.

I did notice that the cup the shifter's knob sits into has no plastic bushing in it which I remember seeing in a picture elsewhere on this site.

I'd like to think that the shifter was my issue but I have a feeling it's a bit more than that and I don't have any experience with transmission work.

the trans code on the truck is X, but the PO claimed that it was fixed some time before. Due to having reverse stop working.

I'd appreciate any help or advice and things to look at/into.

I don't know much about the transmissions, but I know that the the shifters on these transmissions have a lot of slop in them sometimes. I remember seeing something about a fix for the sloppy shifter somewhere here but can't find it.

As for your shifting issues, that's usually an internal transmission problems in the shifting mechanism I believe.

Surprised no one else has jumped in on this problem. Maybe they will here quickly.
