I have been replacing the reman carb on this engine regularly at 8 to 12 months over the past 3 years. it has the 1bbl carb does anyone know of a manifold and carb or even an adapter plate I can buy to upgrade this to a performance carb? I tried esslinger and they said they have no intakes or carbs and the catalog is about 7 years out of date

also I have an automatic transmission so I Would need the kick down

I've been trying to sell my intake and carb combo for about 3 months now...not even one interested...it's a two bbl with the Motorcraft 5200...even offered them separate as many circle track racers were looking for this exact intake about ten years ago...now I guess they've moved on...

I drove mine with the same carb and intake for about 8 years with very few problems...that I couldn't figure out...so I'm sure if you upgrade to a 2 bbl you will do yourself a big favour...

Maybe contact some of the guys in the many threads in here that have upgraded or swapped in newer carbs...maybe some of them will part with their beloved items...

You got the dreaded Ranger round port head, the only 2bbl intake is the 87-88 Ranger 2.0 round port intake. Even with that intake the carb, and kickdown will not be a bolt-on. Since you have a automatic you should have the 2.3, you best bet is to find a 1979-80 Mustang with a 2.3, and automatic. Get the head, intake, carb, and linkage. The second best choice is a 1974-78 Mustang II, or a 1974-80 Pinto/Bobcat with a automatic, and get the head. intake, carb, and linkage. If your truck has the C3 automatic it should be a bolt-on deal except for maybe the throttle cable.

if shipping wasn't so damn much I'd buy that 2.3 round port head off you.

what about this ebay item

Nice! But...$700???

I guess it will solve many problems with other solutions...as it will give complete fuel control system...but I might bump my price up just a touch before someone makes me offer at the lower price...:yahoo:

I recently went through this with a 88 ranger 2.0. I went with a redline weber carb #k457, it will work on the 2.3 as well if you get a 2.0 intake. I've gained significant power throughout. uploadfromtaptalk1440561729972.jpg

Now that looks awesome. Too bad I'm in California, and emissions are a PITA already.

The carb kit listed is an actual part number from that particular store but the real part number (or one of them) is the Weber 38 DGES...over all a good carb and used by many...

I wanted to ask about that alternator bracket...are you using the original alternator setup or did you switch out to something else? Those brackets are hard to find in Canada and I almost bought one for $100 from a place in Texas...just thought I'd let you know they are getting rarer by the minute...

Mine managed to break at the bolt area in two different places...but I still had it bolted on using the same bracket when the engine finally died...
