Can anyone help my ranger won't idle it will start at wide open throttle and i can hold rpms at 1000 (tach installed) and when i increased the throttle it it seems to hesitate and slowly climb rpms. It is a brand new 2.3 roller with oversized cam not much what is known as rv cam (medium lobed) with a 1 barrel carb it ran fine for 500 miles breakin and first long trip (100 miles) it was struggling so hard to move i steeped out and pushed it. Ive checks timing new plugs wires i feel it is vacuum because i removed egr and it had lots of capped ports can anyone shed some light here im in desperate need :icon_confused:

hows the carb? might need a cleaning/rebuild or and idle mixture/speed adjust.

I have 3 carbs the original with a parts donor and a remaned my best two do the same im trying to get ride of as much as possible as far as emissions and b.s. vacuum and as mechanical as possible i am considering a 2 barrel but i would like to get it to run and idle at ease b4 i make the switch because im not sure if i can do the swap without getting another intake d port preferably is that right ive been researching for months even contacted some old freinds from wyotech and turned up no solutions

Two different carbs doing the same thing would usually indicate that the carb is not the problem...but it does sound like a vacuum leak somewhere.

Losing power after initially running ok for a short time is also a symptom of a leak somewhere...or maybe you've capped something that shouldn't be capped...

Is the PCV still installed and working? The hose that comes up from the block usually works it's way back into the throttle body to help evacuate pressure from the lower block...and if that is not happening you can be getting way too much pressure beneath the pistons. Even without connecting it to the intake (cap the intake side of things) that hole on the driver side of the block needs to be open...but don't leave it that way as dirt and such can make it's way into the block.

Short of that...did you swap in the same type of carb when you changed it out? That could indicate a connection to the carb is needed...like for the choke...the choke MUST be opened...the butterfly valve at the top can be propped open with a long bolt or something just to hold it in place...temporarily.

My pcv is there but not hooked up my diagram says to connect to carb and carbon can is that correct and i i connect it else where to get same effects

OK...is the line where that is supposed to attach to the base of the carb still open? You either have to cap it or run the line to it...otherwise it is letting way too much air into the mix...

If that line is capped now then look for other possible openings...do you have a brake booster on the firewall? That would take vacuum from the intake to help with your brakes...

Haha no my vacuum advance is hooked up in that spot and the vacuum port on the intake only has the booster line conected my finger is on the advance and the booster line it at top next to the red wire which is the electric choke wire. Ps i bout the truck for 500 put the new motor in and reconnected everything the way it was when i bought it it is the truck in my profile pic also can anyone tell me what gen it is?

The vacuum line that is pushed onto the cam cover bolt does not belong in that position. It should be connected to !something! that will use the vacuum to signal or operate a device. There should be a vacuum diagram on the underside of the hood or on the radiator support. It can be very simple or very complex, but it you don't connect the lines as described, it is difficult to determine what causes any problems. Once it runs well with them all connected, you can 'adjust' to your hearts content, and if you don't like results, can un-adjust.

Vcv are gone a.c. is gone the only thing conected is booster and vac advance apparently the owner b4 me thought that was just as good as a cap lol anyways whats the bare minimum as far as vacuum
